The Brief
When we were commissioned to design the four-bedroom Warley show home at Crest Nicholson’s Arden Oaks development in Brentwood, our brief was clear: create a home that felt aspirational, yet genuinely liveable.
Today’s buyers want more than beautifully styled interiors. They want homes that reflect the way they live, work and relax. With that in mind, the design team set out to create a scheme that balanced contemporary style with everyday practicality, helping prospective purchasers imagine themselves living in the space from the moment they walked through the door.
We spoke to Polly Grinnell, our Head of Business Development at Clayton & Company, about the inspiration behind the design and the thinking that shaped the finished scheme.
Designing Around Modern Family Life
One of the key objectives for the project was to create spaces that felt authentic and relevant to modern lifestyles.
Rather than designing rooms in isolation, we considered how different areas of the home would work together to support family life, entertaining, working from home and moments of relaxation.
“As buyers’ lifestyles continue to evolve, it’s important that show homes reflect how people really live. We wanted the design to feel aspirational, but also genuinely achievable and welcoming.
Everything we design starts with how people actually use their homes. We know this is where most of life happens, from busy mornings to relaxed evenings, so it needed to feel social, flexible and comfortable all at once.”
At the same time, the designers were careful to include quieter, more personal spaces.
“There’s a growing need for homes to offer different zones, whether that’s somewhere to work, read or just take a moment. It’s about creating choice within the home.”
The result is a home that feels sophisticated without appearing overly formal, striking a balance between inspiration and practicality.
Taking Inspiration from the Local Landscape
We drew inspiration from the surrounding Brentwood landscape, using soft greens, warm neutrals and natural textures to create a calm and inviting atmosphere throughout the home.
These subtle references to the local surroundings help establish a sense of connection between the development and its setting, while creating interiors that feel timeless and elegant.
Creating Flexible Spaces
Flexibility was another important consideration throughout the design process.
As working patterns continue to change, buyers increasingly value homes that can adapt to different needs over time.
Dedicated areas for work, study and relaxation were carefully considered alongside open-plan spaces designed to encourage connection and social interaction.
“People want homes that work harder for them. It’s no longer just about creating beautiful rooms; it’s about creating spaces that support everyday life”.
The Importance of Detail
While the overall design needed to make a strong first impression, the finer details were equally important.
Layered textures, carefully selected accessories and thoughtful styling choices help bring warmth and personality to the scheme, creating a home that feels both polished and welcoming.
Every element was chosen to contribute to a cohesive design story while enhancing the overall customer experience.
A Home Buyers Can Imagine Themselves Living In
The finished Warley show home demonstrates how thoughtful interior design can help bring a property to life.
By combining contemporary styling with practical solutions and a strong understanding of modern lifestyles, the design creates an environment that feels both aspirational and attainable.
For us, successful show home design isn’t simply about creating beautiful spaces. It’s about helping buyers form an emotional connection with a home and imagine the life they could build there.
