Management Accountant — Maternity Cover

Part-time | 8 days month | Fixed-term contract | Paulton, BS39 7SX

We’re looking for an experienced Management Accountant to join Clayton & Company on a fixed-term maternity cover contract, reporting to our Head of Finance.

This is a hands-on role within our interior design business, covering month-end accounts, management reporting, project accounting, cash flow and cost control. You’ll bring strong accounting experience, excellent attention to detail and the ability to provide clear, accurate financial information.

We offer flexibility in working arrangements, although the role is primarily office-based in Paulton.

What you’ll be doing

• Preparing monthly profit and loss accounts and KPI reports, explaining financial performance.
• Monitoring cash flow, debtors and creditors.
• Completing month-end balance sheet reconciliations, including accruals, prepayments and deposits.
• Managing project and work-in-progress accounting, ensuring costs and income are recorded accurately.
• Allocating staff time and other costs to the appropriate projects and cost centres.
• Managing intercompany recharges and invoicing.
• Reviewing purchase ledger information and supplier invoices for accuracy.
• Preparing quarterly VAT returns.
• Liaising with external accountants on year-end and statutory accounts.
• Supporting the senior leadership team with annual budgeting and forecasting.

What we’re looking for

• CIMA or ACCA qualified, or equivalent.
• Three to five years’ experience in a similar management accounting role, including project accounting.
• Knowledge of Sage, Xero and Excel.
• Strong accountancy skills and excellent attention to detail.
• The ability to manage your time effectively and work independently.
• Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach.
