Business Development Manager - Hotels and Private Clients

Clayton & Company Interiors are seeking a confident and effective individual with direct experience working with boutique hotel and luxury hospitality settings. The right candidate will not only understand the language and nuances of hotel operations—they’ll talk the talk with fluency and credibility, backed by a strong network of industry contacts. A background in creative interior design is highly advantageous, particularly with a focus on bespoke, high-end environments. Passion and understanding for crafting memorable guest experiences through outstanding design is essential.

This person will bring strategic energy, strong relationship-building skills, and a natural flair for connecting with discerning hotel clients and private individuals alike.

Key Purpose

To develop and execute sales strategies within the hotel and private client sectors that directly contribute to the company’s revenue and reputation. This includes setting and achieving clear targets in collaboration with the Head of Business Development and senior management team, while identifying emerging market opportunities.

Accountability

  • Achievement or exceeding of agreed sales targets through the successful implementation of sales and marketing plans
  • Delivery of successful new business, retention and referral rates
  • High scores in customer feedback from analysis of feedback forms or surveys and less formal feedback from customers
  • Negotiation of achievable project budgets with customers such that their efficient execution will enable profitability to meet or exceeds target
  • Recognition by operational departments of the importance of the customer and of the sales department’s role and authority in meeting customer requirements

Key Responsibilities

Client Acquisition & Relationship Management

  • Develop new client opportunities through strategic outreach and networking
  • Build and maintain a database of hotel and private client prospects using CRM tools (e.g. ACT)
  • Maintain and grow existing client relationships to maximise repeat business
  • Respond swiftly to enquiries and proactively follow up via phone and email
  • Communicate detailed and accurate briefs to project and design teams

Market Intelligence & Strategic Planning

  • Conduct market research within local boutique hospitality and residential sectors
  • Monitor competitors and identify sales threats and opportunities
  • Contribute to the annual and quarterly sales/marketing plans
  • Create targeted marketing and seasonal campaign strategies
  • Manage advertising campaigns across relevant industry publications

Operational Collaboration

  • Ensure client expectations are clearly communicated and met by internal teams
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings to ensure resource agility and delivery timelines
  • Resolve performance issues related to client satisfaction with urgency
  • Support training and mentoring initiatives for team growth

Compliance and Standards

  • Uphold quality, health & safety, and performance protocols
  • Lead by example in presentation and professionalism across all client touchpoints
  • Suggest improvements and innovations to internal processes and client service

Required Skills & Attributes

  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation abilities
  • Proactive, solution-oriented communicator
  • Confident enforcing quality and performance standards
  • Knowledge of safety, fire procedures, and welfare policies
  • Competent in relevant IT systems and CRM platforms
  • Valid UK driving licence

Salary between £30,000 to £50,000 dependent on experience. Benefits include a company profit-based bonus, generous holiday, pension, staff discounts and WFH. Both full time and part time applicants considered.
