Georgian Townhouse Soft Furnishings , Clifton

Introduction

Clayton & Company were commissioned by Wotton Donoghue Architects to design, manufacture and install bespoke soft furnishings for a fully refurbished five-bedroom Georgian townhouse in Clifton, Bristol.

Working in collaboration with the architects, who led both the architectural and interior design of the project, our role was to deliver tailored soft furnishing solutions that complemented and enhanced the overall scheme.

The Brief

The project involved the complete refurbishment of a substantial period property, including a music room, reception and bar area, office, snug, media room and gym.

Our brief was to provide a full soft furnishings package across the entire home, including:

Bespoke window treatments
Curtains and blinds
Bed treatments
Decorative finishing details and trimmings

Each element needed to respect the heritage of the building while aligning with the refined, contemporary vision set out by the architects.

Our Approach

Working closely with Wotton Donoghue Architects, we developed a fully bespoke solution tailored to each room.

Our in-house workroom team produced all soft furnishings, allowing complete control over:

Fabric detailing and application
Construction and finish
Consistency across multiple spaces

Close collaboration throughout the process ensured that every element complemented the wider design scheme, while also meeting the practical requirements of the property.

Manufacture & Installation

All soft furnishings were made within our dedicated workroom over a 6–8 week period, working closely with the architect’s specified materials and overall scheme.

Our experienced installation team then spent over two weeks on site, carefully fitting each element throughout the property.

The scale and complexity of the project required a coordinated, phased installation approach to ensure a seamless finish across all rooms.

The Outcome

The result is a beautifully cohesive interior, where bespoke soft furnishings play a key role in enhancing the architectural design.

Layered window treatments, carefully considered fabrics and handcrafted details bring warmth, texture and refinement to each space, while remaining sympathetic to the building’s Georgian heritage.

This project highlights the value of collaboration between architects and specialist makers, demonstrating how thoughtful detailing and expert craftsmanship can elevate a design vision into a fully realised space.
