Meet Polly

Our New Head of Business Development

When you choose Clayton & Company for your project, you’re not just selecting a design firm. You decide to work with us because you value our expertise and creativity. That’s why we’re eager to give you a chance to get to know the team you’re investing in.

Meet Polly, the newest member of the Clayton & Company team. With over 20 years’ experience in the creative sector, Polly joined us at the start of the year and brings a wealth of experience with her.

We sat down with her to find out more about her background in design, the interior styles she loves, and what she’s joined to team to do…

Hi Polly, please tell us more about your career background…

I studied Graphic Design at University, which sparked my passion for the creative process. Early in my career, I was fortunate to work directly with clients, establishing strong relationships and shaping project briefs alongside talented studio teams. Those early client-facing conversations, where we could uncover their challenges and translate them into creative solutions, have always been a driving force for me. Most recently I was Managing Director of a retail design and build business and I’ve focused on building a business model that prioritises responsible design practices and fosters a collaborative, accountable team culture.

What have you joined Clayton & Company to do?

At Clayton & Company, I’m excited to lead the sales and marketing team, while overseeing the broader direction of the business. With the market constantly evolving, my role is about ensuring that remain agile and adaptable in meeting the diverse needs of our clients. Whether it’s designing show homes, hotels, or working on private or commercial projects, I’m here to assess how we can streamline our processes, deliver top-notch service, and maintain the high standards that our clients expect.

What’s your area of expertise?

Having worked in a business where we designed, managed, and installed large-scale, complex projects across the UK, Europe, and North America, my expertise lies in developing high-performing teams that form deep, trusted connections with clients across various industries.

“I believe that we are only as good as the last project we deliver, which means staying deeply attuned to our clients’ needs.”

What are you most excited about getting involved in?

I’ve primarily worked in commercial interiors, so I’m really excited about the opportunity to dive into hotel and residential projects at Clayton & Company. We have a talented, passionate team, and I can’t wait to help elevate their work while seeking out new opportunities that allow us to push the boundaries of creativity and design.

What would you say is your interior style?

I’m drawn to bold colour schemes, rich pigments, and textured layers that bring a space to life. I love incorporating natural materials and blending in classic, refurbished furniture pieces – there’s something timeless about the mix of old and new. The design aesthetic seen in country manor house hotels, with its sense of history and refinement, has always inspired me. It’s the perfect balance of elegance and comfort.

From what you have seen so far, do you have a favourite Clayton & Company project?

I’m still familiarising myself with the full portfolio, but I’ve been really impressed by the diversity of projects of Clayton & Company has taken on. I’m particularly excited by the level of craftmanship and attention to detail that goes into every project – whether large or small. I look forward to getting more hands-on with upcoming projects that showcase our team’s creativity and expertise.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work, I’m passionate about the natural world. I love spending time outdoors with my family, often on adventures in our campervan. I recently completed a Garden Design Diploma and earned my RHS Level 2 in Practical Horticulture, combining my love of design and nature. Being immersed in nature is my true happy place – whether I’m cycling, exploring new terrain, practicing yoga, or simply relaxing with a good book.
