Styling

Meet the Makers

Jodie Thrower, Senior Stylist

Jodie and her team are the ones who “put the icing on the cake” when it comes to installing our interiors. Their workspace is an Aladdin’s cave of home accessories, flowers and foliage.

Q. When you get a brief from one of the designers, how do you start planning the styling?

A. I firstly examine the floorplan along with the design boards for each room and look at the scale of the furniture, along with the colour scheme and see which items we have that are suitable for the scheme.

Q. Do you consider the environment when choosing the materials you use and do you use recycled materials?

A. The environment is very much a priority when choosing what to use in a scheme. We re-cycle materials when we can and we are very conscious of what else we can do to minimise harm to the environment.

Q. How long have you been doing this and what got you into it?

A. I’ve been working at Clayton and Company for over 10 years. My interest in design started from a young age and I knew I wanted to go down this avenue as a career, so I began studying design at college and University.

Q. What is the most ambitious design you have tackled?

A. The most unusual and memorable design I have undertaken was a few years ago when I had to style a house based on Alice and Wonderland. The whole house had this theme running throughout and the brief was to be bold and wacky with our designs. I had to think outside of the box and produce styling pieces that would complement the scheme, as well as being eye-catching. Children’s rooms in general are great fun to style.

Q. Right now it’s all about Christmas styling – what is your favourite festive trend this year?

A. My favourite festive trend this year is the more natural look, with plenty of eucalyptus, mosses and pinecones. I love the different textures and tones of greens, combined with some natural elements.
