We sat down with Fran, our Senior Designer behind the recent show home for Antler Homes, Knights Green. From colour palettes to panelling, here’s what she had to say about her design process…
What was your design inspiration for Knights Green?
“The local area was a huge influence for me. I wanted to bring the countryside in using soft neutrals alongside ochre and honey tones. Places like the South Downs National Park and the Surrey Hills really shaped my vision. The goal was to create a calming family home that appeals to a wide range of buyers.”
What brief were you given for this project?
“I was asked to create a calm, light, and airy show home that reflected the local area and countryside.”
Are there any key design features that really speak to the target market and design brief?
“Yes. We used different styles of panelling in the hallway, bedroom, and lounge to inspire potential buyers and show how easily it can be replicated. It’s a stylish yet achievable feature that adds character instantly.”
The living room has a lovely feel. Can you tell us about any standout elements?
“We designed the bespoke media unit as the focal into the room. The curved edges help soften the space and make it feel more open. Plus, the wall panelling works with the taller ceilings, adding texture and depth without overwhelming the room.”
Why did you choose mustard yellow in the living room and bedroom?
“I wanted to inject some soft ochre and honey tones to warm up the neutral palette. It complements the oak and wood finishes and brings in the golden countryside hues. Plus, with the show home launching in spring, it felt perfect to echo the time of year.”
What inspired the design of the dining area?
“The banquette seating was key. It’s a clever way to maximise space in the dining and kitchen area, and it’s great for hosting. It creates a cosy yet practical area for entertaining friends and family.”
And finally, what’s your top design tip for new home buyers?
“Before choosing paint or furniture, think about how you want to live in the space. Which rooms will you use the most? How much storage will you need? Where does the natural light fall throughout the day? Once your layout works for your daily life, then start adding your personality with colour, textures, and accessories.”
